Grace Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. What does this mean for you? We are an ever-growing group of Christians who gather together around God's Word and Sacraments for spiritual growth. We seek to be a blessing to the community of Monroe and beyond. Here in town we are often referred to as that "Church with the big sign out front with the witty sayings." Most of our visitors refer to us as "an incredibly friendly and welcoming congregation". Grace is a place to belong for people of all backgrounds, dispositions and needs. After all, we're all here together as God's children.
If you're a visitor...
We would be glad to have you with us. Worship is all about Jesus Christ and Him as Savior which means everyone is invited! There are no restrictions on who can come to the Lord's house because that's how Jesus had it during His earthly ministry. We love to meet new faces and can't wait to meet you as well. Just remember though, the church is a "hospital for sinners" which means you shouldn't come here expecting to find perfect people. We're here because we want to be and we need to be here.
We invite you to check out some of the pages here on the site about what we believe and what we do here at Grace. You are especially encouraged to give us a call to talk to us personally.
How do I join Grace...
We would love to work with you on this great step in your life. To do this I invite you to learn more by first clicking through on this link to get more information.
What's Going on at Grace?
During the year of 2012 we are encouraging all members and friends of Grace to be in God's Word. We are doing this through a program we call "Grace in the Word". We wish to have everyone read several portions of Scripture each day beginning January 1, 2012 and by December 31st to have read through the entire Bible. A daily reading plan will be published in all of our print media as well as online. A facebook group has also been started as a place for people to comment and discuss and share their readings as they go along. Please not the following links to help you get started:
Our 2011 Advent Series is entitled "Savior of the Nations, Come". It is an Advent-Christmas Sermon Series developed by Concordia Seminary of St. Louis. It will present to us an exciting look into Isaiah 40 and the amazing Advent themes found there. Here is our schedule for this upcoming season:
- Wed. Nov. 30 - 11am/7pm - "Comfort, Comfort Ye My People" (Is. 40:1-2)
- Wed. Dec. 7 - 11am/7pm - "Prepare the Royal Highway" (Is. 40:3-5)
- Wed. Dec. 14 - 11am/7pm - "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" (Is. 40:6-8)
- Wed. Dec. 21 - 11am/7pm - "Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates" (Is. 40:9)
We would also like to invite all who attend the 11:00am services to a soup luncheon provided for all immediately following worship.
Tis’ the season…we have been busy preparing for our Christmas Season. Our Children’s Christmas Program will be on Sunday, December 11 at 2 p.m. An afterglow of cookies, punch and coffee will follow in the Fellowship Hall located in the basement of the church. We are hoping all of our Sunday school children will attend. Every child will have a part in the program. We will have rehearsal on Sunday, December 4 from 12noon-2p.m. Pizza will be served. Please mark your calendars. If your child can not attend, please notify Brenda Rivet or Dawn Rafko. We wish each family a blessed Merry Christmas!
A new session of the ABC Adult Information Class will meet on Sunday mornings at 9:15am beginning October 30. Bring yourself and the rest will be provided which will include a basic explanation page of the ten lessons and an information sheet to help us minister to you. Those new to Grace and all others are most welcome to attend! Contact Pastor Schultz for more information.
Grace's choir schedules will start up again beginning THIS Thursday, Sept. 8. The Handbell Choir will begin ringing and rehearsing from 5:45 to 7:15pm. The Adult Vocal Choir (age 14 yr. and up) will practice their praises from 7:30 - 9pm. Won't you consider being a part of one or both of these important ministries that enhance our worship services. Contact Kathy Berry (bells) or Chris Berry (vocals).
We have three notes for you regarding Labor Day Weekend here at Grace. The first note is (1) you are invited to wear your work clothes to worship on Sunday as part of our tradition here at Grace. Second, (2) there is no Monday worship on Labor Day itself. This will be our procedure going forward to have no Monday worship on "Holiday" Mondays. The third note is (3) the office will be closed on Labor Day Monday.
We invite all the community to join us at Grace on the morning of September 11, 2011 for services of remembrance of the terrorist attacks 10 years ago. This will be a time for all to reflect in prayerful worship of these events past. It will be a time for all to be able to reflect upon tragic events like Sept. 11 in light of God's Word. We will sing a song originally written in 2002 to mark the 1st anniversary of September 11th and will have other songs fit for the occasion. These Remembrance Worship services will be at our regularly scheduled times of 8:00am and 10:30am.
Grace's annual Church Picnic and Rally Day celebration will be Sunday, Sept. 11. The day will begin in the gym (after 8am worship) at 9:15 as children are recognized and promoted to their new grades. Following the 10:30am worship service, the picnic will be held in the gym with a potluck meal beginning at noon. The Sunday School will host activities for the children as they celebrate the beginning of a new year. We encourage everyone -- Grace members and friends -- to be a part of this special day, so plan to attend! A sign-up sheet (to assist with the potluck planning) will be posted in the Church Office.
